Motor City Rocks!

15 01 2008

This entry will definitely date me. The other day I was looking up some music from the 80’s and ran across an incredible website dedicated to preserving the music of Detroit Bands from 1980-90. They’ve got info and mp3s. Gnarly Dude!

A couple of my favorites from the early 80’s were Rhythm Corps (I think I still have an album that says Rhythm Method, their original name) and Figures on the Beach. Both went on to moderate mainstream success in the mid 80’s, but I always thought their first albums were the best. If you want some “totally awesome” sonic rendezvous songs, check out Broken Halos by Rhythm Corps and Swimming by Figures on the Beach.

Speaking of 80’s New Wave? Does anyone from Detroit remember MV3 on channel 62 (music videos for those of us who didn’t have MTV) or WLBS 102.7 in Mount Clemens? They played a whole bunch of great alternative stuff until they changed formats my junior year of high school.
