30/30: Cloverfield. Difficulties. The Best of You.

22 01 2008

cloverfield.jpgMy daughter and I got to the movies to last weekend to see the long awaited release of Cloverfield. We love suspense movies and after the first trailer a year ago they had us hooked. It’s pretty much Godzilla meets Blair Witch Project…a definite great movie experience. Don’t worry I won’t give away any movie spoilers. I hate that!

The movie took a human approach to the disaster. It’s more about the characters IN the story, than the special effects, the destruction and even the monster. In the face of difficulty they could have chosen to run away from the disaster to safety, but they choose the difficult path of running into danger to help someone in need. It was about their perseverance in the middle of a disaster.

Difficulty can bring out the WORST in people…disagreement, disappointment and discouragement. But it is often that same difficulty that has the potential to bring out the BEST in people…courage, faith and perseverance. Actually our potential will never be reached in life if we don’t experience the difficult things that make us struggle, question and strive to overcome. The interesting thing is that Christ doesn’t make our life easy and safe when we follow Him. Difficulties still happen, but now there is purpose. James said it this way…

Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. James 1: 2-4

What difficulty are you facing this week? Is it getting the best of you OR is it bringing out the best of you? Is it getting the best of you OR is it bringing out the best of you? May you allow Christ to do his work in you this week, so that you will grow in Him to “become mature and well developed, not deficient in any way.” May He bring out the best of you.

This Sunday, A2: Dangerous Church wraps up @ Epic…Courageous Faith.
