Last night the story on Epic’s MySecretStory.org ran on Fox2News.
Brad Edwards of Fox2News did a very positive piece about secrets and the damage they can cause. It’s the news, so they ended up cutting out the comments from everyone about Christ and His forgiveness, healing and power and that He wants to help us break free from our secrets and experience the new life in Him. As I was praying last night, 3 things hit me from God…
1. Deeper Authenticity. In the church, we hide our junk from everyone and put on a mask. The result is the unbelieving world looks the other way. Maybe the church would be more effective if we based our confidence in Christ, stopped worrying about what others think about us and shared honestly about the authentic struggles we have and how God is working to help us overcome. Listen to Paul 1 Corinthians 12:9-10 “But he (Christ) said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
2. People are Really Struggling. There are so many people out there who are really struggling in life and need real help. People desperately need both Jesus Christ in their life and others that that can help them through their struggles. It’s never too late to be who you might have been. Pray for those on MySecretStory.org. Personally reach out to someone you know today.
3. Let’s Stop Playing Church and Be the Church. It’s Lent, so let’s get real about confessing to God. A lot of people around town are talking about giving up things for Lent…meat, sweets, etc. Hey I’m a believer in Biblical fasting, but the goal is to grow closer to God, not play some “religious game.” God doesn’t care about your eating habits, He cares about your life habits…what’s on the inside. Let’s stop playing games with God, be real with what’s on the inside, walk away from our sins, and allow Christ to change us from the inside out. He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Proverbs 28:13
