30/30: Easter. Superman. Reverse the Irreversible.

26 03 2008

superman.jpgWhen I was 11 years old a movie came out that blew me away…Superman. Okay, Christopher Reeves was a little plastic and the story was contrived, but the effects were off the chart for 1978. In one scene, the classic girl-next-store Lois Lane is in the dessert and her car is swallowed up in an earthquake. Superman can’t get there in time to save her. Oh No! He gets super angry and starts flying around the Earth at super sonic speed which results in reversing the rotation of the Earth, reversing time and saving Lois Lane. Awesome Stuff if you could scientifically do it. Unfortunately the Earth rotates 1000 miles hour, so if we reversed the Earth, everyone would die from whiplash.

Wouldn’t that be awesome if we could reverse time? We have all said something or done something that who wish you could hit the rewind button, go back in time and and pick up where you left off. We wish we could undo that moment and reverse what happened, but somethings in life are irreversible. You can’t unbreak a leg. You can’t unbake cookies. You can’t redo a moment. We don’t get a dress rehearsal for life, the moment we are born we’re on the stage.

But that is what is so incredible about Jesus. When He walked on the earth, He reversed the irreversible. He reversed weather systems, reversed sickness, reversed disease, reversed hardened hearts and on Easter He reversed death. Easter is a celebration of God doing something that defies the laws of the universe and it changes the equation of our lives today.

One of Jesus disciples Peter talked about the power of Easter. “What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future.” 1 Peter 1:3-5

What happened 2000 ago has the ability to change our future right now in this moment. It’s a picture of what God wants to do in our lives. God is still in the resurrection business. What in your life do you need to be reversed? What part of you has died? What do you need raised? Maybe it’s a broken relationship, a broken dream, or a broken heart. Jesus can reverse the irreversible in your life. In Christ, you have hope, you have a brand new life and your future starts today!
