30/30: Indiana Jones. Choices. Let it Go.

8 07 2008

God @ the Box Office Series began last Sunday with one of my favorites movies as a kid, Indiana Jones. Whether it was the search for the holy grail, the arc of the covenant or even aliens the movie connected with our desire for live a life of adventure. My ending scenes of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade always rock my world…”The PENITENT man bows before God,” “He choose POORLY” and “Let it go.” In some ways a good movie it like a modern day parable that gets you to think about the choices you are currently making in life. In this scene Elsa knows that the Cup of Christ can’t pass the seal and be removed from the cave, but she goes for it anyway and it doing so ignites an earthquake.

In Proverbs 14:8, Solomon states, “The wisdom of the wise keeps life on track; the foolishness of fools lands them in the ditch.” We all have looked back on some of our choices and thought “What was thinking?” People we should not have dated. Cars we should not have leased. Stuff we wished we would not have done. The awesome thing about Jesus is when we confess our sin, He forgives our past and gives us new start.

But how are your choices today? Are you choosing wisely? Is there an area of your life that you’ve been foolishly grabbing for the cup? You’ve been reaching for it…and you feel like you can almost get it. Maybe you’re reaching for financial success and you’ve placed career advancement above God or family. Maybe you’ve compromised God’s standards in your current relationship and you’ve don’t think you can change. Maybe you even think it’s God’s will because it feels so right. Sin ALWAYS feels right…and it ALWAYS feels good. But God has a plan for your life is EVEN BETTER than your short sightedness choice.

Trust Him. Your Heavenly Father wants to help you make life choices that are based on Godly wisdom and not personal emotions. He’s trying to save you from another “What was I thinking?” decision that lands you in the ditch of regret. His wants to lead you to have an incredible life. But here’s the deal…Only when you take your eyes off of the cup and “let it go,” are you free to allow your Heavenly Father to pull you out.

This is the only time in the movie where Indy’s father calls him “Indiana” instead of Henry or Junior. The love and care in His voice moves him to “let it go.” The same is true about Your Heavenly Father. Where ever you are or whatever you’ve done, He personally meets you where you are at today and specifically calls you by name…

“____________ Let it Go.”

May we listen to the voice of our Heavenly Father as He leads us down the path of wisdom.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2
